Story 3
Becky Walker, 18, a secretary from Bristol, was 16 when she lost her virginity.

She says:  "He was my first boyfriend and 18 at the time.

"I really loved him.  I was sure that we'd be together for ever, but 2 months later he dumped me.

"Afterwards I really regretted losing my virginity so young.  Since then, I've had 2 more sexual partners, but neither relationship has lasted long.

"Looking back I realise that I had sex with my first boyfriend because i was afraid he would lose interest otherwise.

"But in the end losing my virginity didn't keep us together any longer than if I had said no.

"Sex education in school didn't teach me much.  It was all diagrams and the teachers just seemed embarrassed about the whole thing.

"And that kind of made me too embarrassed to ask my parents.

"The school playground was where i learnt about sex.  My friends were always bragging that they'd 'done it' but in reality most of them hadn't.

"I didn't know that - so part of the reason i did it was so I wouldn't feel left out.  I think that's why a lot of girls do it.

"The most important thing I think is to demystify sex and that will only happen when the people who are educating us about sex can talk about it openly and honestly."
