For sex to mean anything, to me it has to be within marriage. Any
encounter before then would be just about lust, with no real feelings
behind it.
So
many friends have regretted sleeping around, though fortunately I don't
know any who have made a girl pregnant. Certainly, teenagers of my
age or younger can't possibly know what love is. But we certainly
don't need to experiment with sex to discover love. Love can be
found only through commitment.
I'm
proud of being a virgin. Children today feel pressured to have a
boyfriend or girlfriend and to make love before they are ready. But
I think we should rejoice in our inexperience.
I
am a Christian but by no means fanatical, and I've always felt this way
about sex. I have a lot of support from my peers because many of my
friends are still virgins. It would be much harder to stick to my
values if I were surrounded by friends who were boasting about what they
got up to with women.
Many
teenage magazines are outrageous, being filled with images that promote a
casual lifestyle. It's good to be informed but there is no moral
guidance with it - and that goes for sex education at school as
well. It's just assumed you're going to have sex as a teenager and
there's no mention of any ethical choice to be made.
