Studies show that marriage has a profound impact on non-sexual health. In fact, the risk of death at any given age is substantially lower in married individuals. One study states, "Compared to married people, the nonmarried...have higher rates of mortality than the married: about 50 percent higher among women and 250 percent higher among men." Being unmarried seems to decrease a man's average life span by about 10 years.
