 Help!

Help ... who can help me?

If you are experiencing some sort of problem, whatever it may be, it is always best to talk to someone about it.  If you have a problem related to relationships or sex or any of the topics dealt with within this website you have a number of options available to you, all of which will help you to deal with and hopefully sort out whatever it is you may be going through.  You can;

  • This website - www.icebergsandbabies.org.uk

    We have a team of health professionals available to you to submit a question to 24/7, 365.  Go to the 'Ask a Question' page and submit your question online.
  • Parents

    Yes that's right ... your parents or whoever else is caring for you!  Perhaps you would feel more comfortable talking to one rather than the other, or maybe it is best to talk to them both together.  As hard as it is to believe at times, they may well be more clued in than you think.  They may have experienced a lot of the same stuff you are going through when they were growing up and if you have older brothers or sisters they may well have had similar experiences with them.

    Parents, although they may seemed shocked and perhaps even a bit disappointed at first, do have your best interests at heart and will be there for you and prepared to help when perhaps some other, so-called friends, quickly fade away.

    Pick a time that is suitable to both you and your parents - when they are not tired, when they have the time to discuss your situation fully.  Have a think about what you will say, perhaps you could write a few things down beforehand.

    Remember that older brothers and sisters can also be helpful to talk things through with but to talk to a trusted adult is definitely helpful and when you think about it, what adult is more concerned for your wellbeing than your own parents?
  • Pastoral Care Team in School

    Within schools there is a specially trained and experienced team of teachers who have specific responsibility for helping pupils with any problems that they might have.  The problem may be school related - exam stress, bullying, or it may be something that is causing concerning outside of school - problems in the home, health concerns, ...

    If you are not sure who to talk to you could ask at your school reception desk or any member of the teaching staff should be able to let you know who the pastoral care teachers are.
  • Your Doctor

    Your doctor is well used to dealing with the many common mental and physical medical problems that face young people growing up.  If you have a problem that needs to be treated it is always best to see a doctor so that your condition can be diagnosed and sorted out with the proper medical treatment.  For more information check out our 'Visit to a Doctor' section.

    You can either telephone a GP’s surgery (the number will be in the 'Yellow Pages', under 'Doctors - Medical') or call in person during normal working hours (usually between 9am and 5pm).  If you don't want to see your usual doctor you may ask to see any of the other doctors in the surgery.

    Check out our 'Visit to a Doctor' section for all you need to know >>
